Sustainability

Quinn London works closely with our team, clients, suppliers and subcontractors on all aspects of sustainability, to make environmental considerations integral to our decision-making.

We have committed to ambitious targets to achieve Net Zero Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 2040 – ten years before the UK Government’s target date. Our continued efforts to reduce GHG emissions extends to all group offices, workplaces, employees, subcontractors, value chain and others affected by our operations. Whenever possible, we develop low-carbon options for our clients and actively encourage the use of sustainable design, materials and construction methods.

To achieve these targets, Quinn London will engage with a range of activities across planning and operations:

Net Zero

We’ll publish our Net Zero Strategy each year, benchmarking our progress against industry standards and UK Government targets. We have partnered with Planet Mark on our Path to Net Zero to comprehensively align our activities with Net Zero efforts. Planet Mark will ensure third party verification of all our GHG emissions, to lead the way in best practice and meet customer, stakeholder, industry and legal expectations.

Education

As part of our Social Value initiative, we engage with local schools and colleges to raise awareness around topics such as sustainable buildings, use of energy efficient plant and machinery, and environmental best practises.

Supply Chain

We’ll examine the embodied carbon within our supply chains, utilising low carbon alternatives as set out in the UK Government’s Industrial Decarbonisation Strategy. All our suppliers must meet minimum environmental standards and agree to adhere to Quinn London’s Environmental & Sustainability terms and conditions.

Energy

We source all energy from renewable energy providers and aim to constantly improve; minimising waste and reducing the use of machinery and plant where possible, or replacing with more energy-efficient alternatives. We’ve installed sub-meters to monitor, record and report on the electricity and water usage on all our sites. We fully support electric vehicle use and offer charging points on all sites, as well as regularly assessing modes of transport to work and between sites, championing sustainable, low-emission solutions where possible.

Resources

We have a dedicated internal Sustainability Team who are responsible for delivering and auditing against our Net Zero targets. Every site has individual environmental training and inspections, and we aim to roll out Whole Life Carbon Assessments for each project worth over five million pounds in order to support sector-wide efforts to reduce GHG emissions by 2030. We’ll use the nationally recognised RICS Standards as a benchmark for these activities.

Environment

We will report all sources of environmental impact over which we have operational control. Our Sustainability Team promote good environmental practice and seek opportunities to enhance biodiversity across our construction sites.

Innovation

We will implement innovations in design, materials, technology and process to reduce GHG emissions and improve sustainability. Quinn London strives for collaboration between all stakeholders - including clients, supply chain, consultants and material providers - to ensure we deliver the most environmentally friendly solutions.

Government

As a construction company, we understand the impact our operations have on the environment. We will closely follow changing UK Government guidelines to ensure best practice is adhered to. Furthermore, we will work with our clients to ensure that our solutions for both refurbishment and new build projects aligns with the climate emergency declaration.
Health and Safety

We honour our duty of care obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all related regulations to ensure the Health and Safety of our employees and all those affected by our works.

We understand that the pressures of work and everyday life can affect us all, so have trained Mental Health First Aiders within the company who are always there for support. We’ve also put in place a reliable mental health reporting procedure with the help of the Lighthouse Club, a dedicated charity that provides mental health, financial, work and relationship assistance to construction workers.

Construction is considered a high-risk industry, so we take our responsibility incredibly seriously. We ensure that every single team member is fully trained and competent to carry out their work, meaning that everyone goes home to their families at the end of the day, in the same condition they arrived. As members of the British Safety Council and accredited by CHAS, SafeContractor and Constructionline, we regularly benchmark our performance to ensure our standards exceed industry best practice.
